The M151A2, commonly known as the "Mutt" or the M151, is a versatile and compact four-wheel drive military utility vehicle that was used by the United States military from the early 1960s until the early 1990s.
The M151A2 was designed to replace the World War II-era jeeps and was introduced in the early 1970s as an upgrade to the original M151 model. It featured various improvements, including a stronger suspension system, improved cooling system, and an increased payload capacity.
The M151A2 was powered by a 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produced 71 horsepower, giving it a top speed of around 65 miles per hour. It had a lightweight aluminum body and could accommodate up to four passengers, including a driver and three passengers in the back.
The M151A2 was used in a variety of roles, including as a command vehicle, reconnaissance vehicle, and light utility vehicle. It saw significant action during the Vietnam War and was also used by the militaries of several other countries.
Despite its versatility and rugged design, the M151A2 was eventually phased out of service in the early 1990s in favor of newer and more advanced military vehicles. However, many M151A2s can still be found in use by collectors, enthusiasts, and in some military and paramilitary organizations around the world.
